Join the WAVE of Development

At Missoula Surf Soccer Club, W.A.V.E.S. is more than a set of core values — it is the way we ask our players, families, and coaches to grow together.

We invite every player to join the wave of development by embracing the habits, mindset, and character traits that help them succeed on the field, in the classroom, and in life.

W — Welcome the Challenge
We encourage players to seek strong competition, step into difficult moments, and understand that growth comes from testing themselves. Winning matters, but learning through challenge matters most.

A — Awareness
Players grow when they understand their role in the game, their responsibility to the team, and the needs of those around them. Awareness helps players communicate, support, adjust, and compete with purpose.

V — Value Respect
Respect is at the heart of our club culture. We ask players to represent Missoula Surf through their actions, how they treat teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, families, and the larger community.

E — Embrace Bravery
Bravery means competing with courage, resilience, and a willingness to make mistakes. We want players to try, fail, learn, and try again — because real development happens outside of comfort zones.

S — Strive in School
We believe our players are students first. Striving in school builds discipline, accountability, confidence, and habits that carry into soccer and into life.

At Missoula Surf, we believe players make WAVES when they welcome challenges, stay aware, value respect, embrace bravery, and strive for excellence in the classroom and in our community.

Come grow with us. Join the wave.

November–March | Individual Player Development | Missoula Surf Soccer Club

At Missoula Surf Soccer Club, we are committed to year-round player development and creating training environments where players can grow with confidence, creativity, and purpose. Our Advanced Development Program (ADP) in the Dome provides an incredible opportunity for Missoula Surf players to continue building their game throughout the winter months.

From November through March, players have the opportunity to train 60 minutes a day, four days a week, with a focused emphasis on individual technical improvement. ADP sessions are designed to help players sharpen their touch, improve ball mastery, develop confidence under pressure, and build the habits needed to succeed in the game.

Through our NIL relationship with the University of Montana Women’s Soccer Team, ADP players also have the amazing opportunity to receive technical training and mentorship from Division I women’s soccer players. This connection gives our athletes access to high-level role models who understand the demands of the game and can help inspire the next generation of Missoula Surf players.

This program reflects our commitment to supporting every player’s development journey. By providing consistent, high-quality training during the winter season, Missoula Surf gives players the chance to keep improving, stay connected to the game, and prepare for the next stage of their soccer pathway.

Train more. Grow more. Learn from the best. Love the game year-round.

Goalkeeper Development at Missoula Surf Soccer Club
Elite Training. Individual Growth. Best of the Best Standards.

At Missoula Surf Soccer Club, our commitment to individual player development extends to one of the most specialized and important positions in the game: goalkeeper. We believe goalkeepers deserve focused, high-level training from a young age, and our GK Development Program is designed to help players build the technique, confidence, decision-making, and game understanding needed to grow in the position.

Our goalkeeping pathway works alongside our Advanced Development Program (ADP) and our club-wide focus on each player’s growth across the technical, tactical, mental, and game-knowledge areas of development. Through consistent training, challenging environments, and intentional coaching, we are dedicated to supporting Surf goalkeepers as they work toward becoming the “Best of the Best.”

Meet the Coach: J Landham
Our goalkeeper development is led by Coach J Landham, Associate Coach and Goalkeeper Coach for the University of Montana Women’s Soccer Program.

Coach Landham brings NCAA Division I coaching experience, professional-level goalkeeper insight, and a proven track record of developing elite keepers. His teaching style focuses on building confidence, sharpening technique, improving game IQ, and helping players understand the demands of the position at a higher level.

With Coach Landham’s guidance, Missoula Surf goalkeepers gain access to the same high standards and growth-minded training environment used to develop top collegiate athletes. Whether a player is just beginning their goalkeeper journey or looking to take the next step, our program provides the structure, support, and inspiration to help them grow.

Join Missoula Surf Soccer Club and be part of a goalkeeper development environment built for growth, confidence, and excellence.

Missoula Surf Bag Tag Challenge
Individual Growth. Daily Commitment. Milestone Rewards.

At Missoula Surf Soccer Club, we believe individual player development happens when players are inspired to take ownership of their growth. The Bag Tag Challenge is designed to encourage players to spend more time with the ball, improve their touch, and work intrinsically toward becoming the best version of themselves.

Running monthly throughout each season — Fall and Winter/Spring — the Bag Tag Challenge gives players the opportunity to train, improve, and earn recognition almost year-round. Players are challenged to build consistency, sharpen their juggling skills, and reach new technical milestones through focused individual practice.

As players achieve each juggling goal, they earn a Missoula Surf Bag Tag to celebrate their progress. These milestones are more than rewards — they represent commitment, perseverance, and the confidence that comes from putting in the work.

The Bag Tag Challenge is part of our larger commitment to helping players develop strong technical foundations, love the process of improvement, and take pride in their individual growth.

Coming Soon: More Bag Tag challenges connected to individual skills such as dribbling, passing, finishing, and, of course, we would never forget our goalkeepers — saves!

Join the challenge. Build your touch. Earn your tag. Keep growing.

Missoula Surf Soccer Club Game Model
Our Style of Play. Our Standards. Our Development Pathway.

At Missoula Surf Soccer Club, our Game Model is more than a formation or a set of tactics — it is a shared language for how we train, compete, solve problems, and grow as players. Inspired by the developmental standards seen in top academy environments, our model is built to develop players who are resilient, competitive, adaptable, confident, and well-rounded.

We believe players should learn to understand the game, not just play it. Our approach is possession-based, with the expectation that teams value the ball, play with purpose, and make intelligent decisions. At the same time, we teach players to recognize what the opponent gives them. When space is available, we want to play forward. When pressure arrives, we want to stay calm, connect, and find solutions. Possession is not about keeping the ball for the sake of keeping it — it is about controlling moments, creating advantages, and playing with intention.

Our message to players is clear: play with your head up, do not panic on the ball, make decisions, and learn from mistakes without letting them drag you down. Mistakes are part of development. We want players who are brave enough to try, mature enough to reflect, and competitive enough to keep improving.

Missoula Surf players are encouraged to play with speed when the game allows it. Our speed of play should be fast, clean, and purposeful. We want players to be confident and deceptive on the ball, able to unbalance opponents, protect possession, and create opportunities for themselves and their teammates. In the final third, our mindset is simple: finish, do not just shoot. We train players to be calm, confident, and decisive in front of goal.

A key part of our Game Model is exposing players to different formations, systems, and styles of play. Throughout their development, players will learn how to operate in high pressing moments, patient possession phases, low block and mid block defending, wide attacking spaces, quick central combinations, direct play, and transition moments. This variety helps players become adaptable problem-solvers who can read the game and respond to different challenges.

Our goal is to provide the most appropriate and challenging competition for where each player and team are in their development journey. We want our players tested, stretched, and supported. By exposing them to different tactical pictures, competitive environments, and game demands, we help prepare them not only to perform, but to understand, adapt, and grow.

At Missoula Surf, our Game Model reflects who we are: brave on the ball, connected as a team, committed to learning, and always striving to meet the Best of the Best standard.

The Surf Way
One Club. One Pathway. Connected Support.

At Missoula Surf Soccer Club, our players, families, and coaches are part of something bigger than a single team or season. The Surf Way connects our local club environment in Missoula to the broader Surf Nation pathway, providing players with development opportunities, educational resources, competitive experiences, and a national soccer community built around growth.

Through Surf Nation Support, our players and families gain access to the resources, relationships, and shared standards of one of the most respected youth soccer networks in the country. This connection helps strengthen the Missoula Surf experience while giving our players a broader view of the game and the opportunities available to them.

The Surf Select Pathway gives players the opportunity to be exposed to Best of the Best environments, where they can challenge themselves alongside high-level players from across Surf Nation. These experiences help players grow in confidence, compete at a higher level, and understand what it takes to continue advancing in their development journey.

The Surf Way also supports families through Surf Nation player and parent webinars, offering education, guidance, and insight into the player development process. These resources help players and parents better understand the game, the pathway, and the habits needed to succeed on and off the field.

As part of the Surf Nation community, Missoula Surf players may also have access to guest playing opportunities and additional team support. These connections allow players to experience new environments, build relationships, and continue growing through meaningful soccer experiences beyond their regular team setting.

The Surf Way is not only for players — it is also a commitment to our coaches. Through coaching development and coaching collaboration, Missoula Surf coaches are encouraged to keep learning, sharing ideas, and growing together. This creates a stronger club-wide environment and ensures our players are supported by coaches who are committed to continuous improvement.

At Missoula Surf, The Surf Way reflects our belief in connection, opportunity, and development. We are proud to provide a pathway that supports players, families, and coaches while helping our athletes pursue their growth in a Best of the Best environment.
