Unlike the Academy model, our Competitive teams train and compete directly with their assigned team and coach. This structure is intentional — and built around our strong belief that small-group development is one of the most powerful tools in a young athlete’s journey.

Small groups allow for more touches on the ball, more individualized coaching, and greater opportunities to play and apply skills in real-game situations.

By organizing players into competitive teams, we’re able to differentiate levels of development within each age group — particularly at the younger levels, where team formation is based on each player’s current stage of growth. Skills Clinics

At Missoula Surf, player development is our top priority — and in Montana, continued technical growth is essential. That’s why we’re proud to offer Positional Clinics as a free benefit to all Missoula Surf members throughout the Spring season.

These high-quality sessions are led by University of Montana Coaches Ashley Herndon and J Landham, with support from current Griz players and Missoula Surf coaches. Each clinic focuses on key technical elements of the game, offering players of all positions a chance to elevate their skills. Coach J Landham also brings his exceptional goalkeeper coaching to the mix, providing dedicated training for our keepers.

Winter Programs

Train through the cold and keep your game sharp with Missoula Surf’s Winter Programs, held inside the University of Montana’s premier indoor facility — The Dome.

We offer free winter team training for all Surf players, along with inclusive community programming open to any child in Missoula — no Surf membership required.

Competitive Travel Soccer with Year-Round Development

Missoula Surf offers a premier travel team experience for players ages U9 to U18. Our mission is to place each athlete in the best possible environment to grow — technically, emotionally, and competitively — while creating clear pathways to regional and national opportunities, including Surf Select, Surf Nation’s elite player identification program.

With year-round training and technical development in the University of Montana’s state-of-the-art indoor dome, players can continue to advance even through the winter months — a level of consistency and quality that was previously unattainable due to weather and limited indoor space.

Missoula Surf Soccer Camps

Missoula Surf will be offering a camp in Summer 2025, focusing on player development. The camp will be Monday July 21st – Thursday July 24th at Playfair Park (next to Splash MT). Camp will begin at 9 am and run until 12:30pm.
