Missoula Surf Competitive Teams

Missoula Surf offers a competitive travel team experience for players of all ages. Our focus is on player development, creating opportunities to compete at appropriate levels, and opening doors to regional and national pathways — including Surf Select, our elite national program.

U9–U10 (2nd & 3rd Grade) – 7v7 Travel Teams

Travel is kept close to Missoula, with a focus on playing locally whenever possible.
Players are encouraged to challenge themselves through participation in Surf Select, Surf Nation’s national identification program.
Teams are typically led by parent coaches or up-and-coming club coaches, all supported by Director Winter Sanor, our partnership with the Lady Griz, and Surf Nation’s extensive coaching resources.
Our staff is full of energy and passion for developing young players!

U11–U12 (4th & 5th Grade) Travel Teams – 9v9

Travel varies based on each team’s developmental readiness.
By U12, teams may begin competing in regional tournaments, such as:

• Hotshots

• 3 Blind Refs

• Tamarack

• Events in Billings, Coeur d’Alene, Kalispell, and Bozeman

For teams ready to take the next step, travel may expand to high-level events in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Boise, and beyond.

Players are encouraged to participate in Surf Select, which brings together the top talent from Surf regions across the country to compete in premier-level tournaments against elite competition.

U13–U15 Travel Teams (middle school – freshman) – 11v11

Teams in this age group aim to compete at the highest level possible.
Goals include:

• Qualification for regional leagues

• Participation in top tournaments throughout the West and Midwest
  Players are supported in their growth through:

• National opportunities with Surf Select

• Guest playing experiences with Surf teams across the U.S.

U16–U19 Travel Teams – 11v11 (College Prospects)

This phase is designed for players with college soccer ambitions.
Surf Nation offers an exceptional network for college recruitment and exposure to top-level competition.

Players will be guided in:

• Creating highlight reels

• Communicating with college coaches and programs

• Researching schools and playing opportunities across the country

• Building their resumes through guest play with elite Surf teams (EA, GA, ECNL, ECNRL, NPL, JPL)

• Competing in Surf Select, Surf Nation’s national-level program

Spring Season

Missoula Surf Soccer Club’s Spring Season kicks off in November, with training held indoors at the University of Montana’s premier indoor facility — The Dome. This incredible space gives our players a unique opportunity to train and develop year-round, a true advantage in Montana. It also allows our teams to prepare for and compete in winter events more effectively, as we no longer rely on basketball gyms for training during the colder months.

For our U9–U10 teams, the Spring season typically wraps up in early June.
U11–U12 teams may opt to extend their season through July, competing in high-level tournaments such as Surf Cup NW in Redmond, WA.
Our U13–U19 teams are encouraged to compete into July as well, participating in elite regional and national events.

We will not hold tryouts for the Fall 2025 season. This season is open to players in 8th grade and younger and offers a great opportunity to continue player development in a more compact format.

The Fall season includes 2–4 tournaments and outdoor training sessions held at Fort Missoula Regional Park. The season typically wraps up in November.

JPL [Junior Premier League]

Missoula Surf Soccer is committed to increasing the competitive environments that our players are exposed to. Players will only develop to the level they can experience, we are dedicating to raising the ceiling of experience for Montana kids!

JPL Collaboration – Pathway to NPL

Missoula Surf is proud to be collaborating with other top clubs in the region to form highly competitive teams that will compete in the Junior Premier League (JPL) — a National Premier League (NPL) qualifier.

Teams that win their brackets earn a place in a local NPL league for the following year, opening the door to consistent high-level competition and national exposure.

Event Schedule:

• U12- U14 Teams

  • October – Denver, CO

  • November – Mesa, AZ at the state-of-the-art Arizona Athletic Grounds

• U15 and Older

  • November – Mesa, AZ at the state-of-the-art Arizona Athletic Grounds

  • January/February – Mesa, AZ at the state-of-the-art Arizona Athletic Grounds

  • Both events held at the Arizona Athletic Grounds
